The will of the people!

How is it possible that a person who is elected an MP by the people of her constituency does not believe in the will of the people?

The majority of the electorate voted to leave the European Union, but it is obvious that Theresa May did not. Therefore the majority must be wrong but rest assured that everything will be alright because Nanny May will put things right for you.
In spite of what you think you want Nanny knows best.

So sleep tight little ones don’t worry your little heads Nanny will look after you.

Unwanted Attention

It is strange that over the centuries men have been trying to force their  unwanted attentions on Ladies.
In the Edwardian and Victorian days when the ladies wore slightly larger hats they needed Hatpins to stop their hats being blown away. This gave them a weapon to ward off unwelcome attentions (The Hatpin.).

If you research this item you will find that were quite long and very sharp, usually with an imitation jewel on one end.

Being stabbed in the thigh or hand or somewhere else would certainly cause the culprits to think of other things.

What would the ladies use these days?

Hats are out and also a hatpin might be classed as a concealed weapon.

What can they use?
A spray, you have to be careful of which type?

Perhaps a new style of Hairgrip suitable crafted would solve the problem?

Is this tax on a tax legal?

Prior to 1973, there was a tax called Purchase Tax.

In 1973 this was changed to Value Added Tax, at present the VAT on purchases is 20%.

There is another tax called Fuel Excise Duty this applies to the fuel used in Cars, Vans, Coaches Lorries etc. this is currently 57.95 pence per litre.
The big thing is that as well as Fuel Excise Duty being charged, VAT is charged on the Fuel Excise Duty.
In other words, you are paying an extra tax of 11.59 pence VAT on the Fuel Duty.
Businesses with a Turnover above a certain amount can claim that back, naturally, there is manpower needed to claim back what you have paid, but the private citizen has to pay a tax on a tax. Double Taxation.

If a private company or business tried that style of pricing would it be called fraud?

Various Governments like the VAT because a rise of 1% in the VAT doesn’t sound much but spread across a large number of different types of goods it brings in a vast amount of money.

Fuel Excise Duty leads to increased costs on all goods because they need transport of one sort or another.

By the way with Value Added Tax how can you increase the value of something by taxing it, surely all you are doing is increasing the cost?

Does that mean if we pay VAT on say the Prime Minister we get a better Prime Minister?

Message to the Chancellor please do not try this.

British Humour?

On the 6th/7th July, the American blogger DCwhispers reprinted a newspaper report that John Cleese was not happy with modern British comedy.

The change in British Humour is the British Broadcasting Company’s interpretation of what they think should be humour, then in the next breath, they are saying that viewing figures are down.
If you talk to the older person they still think of humour as it was in the 1970’s and 1980’s, with such programmes as “Last of the Summer Wine”, “Open all Hours”, “Are You Being Served” and “Dads Army” etc. alongside American programs such as Frasier.

These are still being watched and enjoyed time and time again and it will continue that way for many years despite the BBC.

What right has the BBC to tell us what we should laugh at?

Football and the Brexit!

With the advent of the world cup in football, it appears that nothing else matters, the papers have headlines about football yet if you look at the letters to the editor page the greater majority are about Brexit and the disastrous mess Theresa May is making of it.

People are hoping that the nations Conservative MP’S will get a grip on the matter and sort it out properly once and for all, the EU has been dividing the MP’s of both the Conservative and Labour parties ever since we first joined, at that time France fought hard to keep us out, DeGaul was still suffering from the treatment he received from the British Government during his exile, and as for the Germans they were a split nation until the Berlin wall came down.

The LibDems are all for the EU because they see that as the only way they can have any influence, they are nothing more than a damp squib.

The future of this country lies in having the guts and willpower to sort out its own problems not necessarily through its politicians.

Many years ago I remember PanAm used to send a booklet out to various people in various countries of the world listing American firms that were looking for representation in other countries. A way forward thought up by an American firm. In other words, it is people who have the advanced ideas and businesses who use them, not governments.

Trump is succeeding because he is thinking as a person, not as a red-taped hidebound institution.

If we had someone like him we would stand a better chance of fighting the establishments.
We will have Brexit the problem is how long will it takes.

With every problem, there is someone who can solve it I only hope we find them soon.

Brexit Continues.

I am becoming more and more convinced that the majority of the MP’s including Theresa May has no wish to leave the EU even to the extent of trying to tie the UK into a deal that is still remaining in all but name.

Are the remainers of the Conservative Party trying to destroy their own Party?

Surely they can’t believe that the electorate is so lacking in political knowledge that they will believe everything they are told?

With the resignation of prominent members of the cabinet, there will now be a reason to stop and reconsider.

What is your memory like?
What countries have tried to dominate Europe before?

Is this history repeating itself in another way?

What is needed is a good strong Brexit person to take us forward to a new phase and prosperity and put the UK first.

Remember we have many cousins, relatives and friends in the rest of the world and very few in the EU. In that, it is a case of horse trading.

N.H.S. Doctors

I see that a suggestion has been put forward that a visit to the Doctors Surgery should have a charge of £5.00 per person levied.

The thing is, is this suggestion coat-trailing, i.e. put forward to see what the population says about it?

What comes next, £10.00 to visit Accident and Emergency?
£20.00 to per Hospital appointment visit?
All of these mean that as in the period before the NHS people will try all the extremes of self-medication, vaccinations will decrease with a subsequent increase in measles, polio etc. the health of the nation will get worse and we will become a third world nation healthwise.

Look what happened to the Dentists, in some places you cant find an NHS Dentist.

Also what is being overlooked is that it is your taxes that are funding the N.H.S. so you would be paying twice.

If you get the chance object to any charges, otherwise it will be the thin end of the wedge.

Emigration, Good or Bad?

Why do people emigrate?

The greater majority emigrate to improve their living standards and to escape from poverty.

Why is it that they then bring with them all that they are trying to escape from?

The same way of living, the same restrictive practices that cause the problems in the first case, the same religious restrictions in their way of dress and actions.

Also, they try and bring the religious laws that restrict other members of the same group i.e: restrict the type of clothing that they allow members of their family to wear.

Why do they expect their religious laws to override the laws of the country they have just emigrated to?

In fact, why should Shira Law override the laws of the new country?

If you notice they also congregate into groups of households and many of them do not try to learn the language. I have noticed that if people from the UK settle in another country they act in exactly the same way regarding living and language but they do try and live within the laws of the host country.

It is no wonder that immigrants are unwelcome.
Locally I find that in the published list of court cases immigrants are to the forefront in driving offences and drinking offences.
Should we take into account regarding driving that we drive on the left and the majority of  other countries drive on the right and when they are in drink (as an old Aunt of mine used to say) their responses change?

I don’t think so, drinking is not an excuse to break the law.

Mind you I do not approve of drinking and driving.

Brexit Trouble for the Prime Minister Again.

The government is in trouble with its own members yet again.
I believe that the main cause of the continued problems is that the MP’s chose a leader who it is known is a remainer and what did she do when picking her cabinet, she chose mainly remainers as her cabinet with just one or two so she could say that she had Brexit covered.

Even the public can see through her ploys so why don’t the Tory MP’s then we can get on with withdrawing from the EU?

This is one of the problems when the MP’s stitch it up so that the normal Conservative Member hasn’t had a say in selecting a new Leader. The MP’s were interested in what was best for their own ambitions and to blazes with what was best to comply with the referendum result. If they had done as they were asked, get on with the exiting from the E.U. the problems wouldn’t be there.

In this case, I am sure the normal member would have been wiser than the MP’s.

Loneliness.

Loneliness

How many people feel lonely?

Will this be you one day?

The other day someone went on to their facebook page and told everyone that they were lonely.
It was as though the floodgates had opened, person after person wrote that they were lonely, one person even said that her husband was upstairs ( I assume in the bedroom) he has dementia so at times she feels alone with no one she can turn to.

Could it be that one of the reasons for this loneliness is the modern way of living?

Think back to when you were young or younger if you were looking for employment you moved to the area that had the best job for you.
In other words, you left your home environment, you lost contact with your friends made new ones and moved on. If this happened two or three times as you moved up the career ladder you lost contact with your new friends and soon you realised that you had plenty of acquaintances but no real friends.

Do you remember Norman Tebbit telling you to get on your bike to look for work?

When people retired from work some moved back to their hometown and found they didn’t know anyone, others moved to the place they had dreamt of and tried to make new friends. Going to coffee mornings and social events and meeting other retirees your social life becomes as full as you want it to be.

Time passes, people get old and restricted in their movement, you or your partner are unable to get out and about much.

Suddenly you realise you are lonely.

Soon the only regular contacts you have are on the social network page that you joined to keep in contact with your own family. You realise that you can make new friends this way.

But you are still lonely only not as lonely.
Is this the modern old age for a number of people?
What is the answer?
