Why are the Armed Forces Lacking Government Support?

Yet again the British Army is finding itself under fire for events that happened many years ago.

How many times will the Government use the Armed Forces purely for political purposes?
Time and time again members of the armed forces find themselves being investigated for historical events. It is time that the Government called time on these investigations and allowed the retired members of the forces to enjoy their retirement in peace and without having to continually worry what the next postal delivery will bring.

There is an old saying, I’m afraid it is now called sexist, but the phrase is;
Man Up you Ministers.

True Democracy?

I see that Jeremy Corbyn is being criticised for insisting that the Labour Party Central Office select a candidate for the safe Labour seat of Lewisham East.

Apparently, the normal practice is for the local association to choose their candidate.
Do you realise that the Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn is under fire for wanting to use the selection process which is very close to the normal selection process of the Conservative Party?

The difference is that Labour Central Office will select the candidate and send that person to be confirmed by the Local Association, whereas the Conservatives send two to the Local Association so that they choose one of the two.

It is also interesting to see that the normal selection process of the Labour Party is the more democratic.

The Future of the Conservative Party

With Sajid Jarvid replacing  Amber Rudd as Home Secretary it means that one remainer has been replaced by another.
This also means that Amber Rudd will be on the back benches where she will be free to speak on her beliefs. Whether she speaks out as an opponent of Brexit remains to be seen. If she campaigns to ignore the referendum how many other Conservatives will support her?

If this does happen it will be against the electorate’s wishes, this will also show that the remainers think that the people who voted to leave are ignorant people who did not understand what they were voting for.
In reality, this will mean that the future of the Conservative will be in the hands of the European Research Group led by Jacob Rees-Mogg.

My hope is that the Conservatives come to their senses and accept the peoples’ decision.

Continuing on the subject of the Home Office it appears that the Civil Servants are out of control, they are acting on matters such as deporting people using rules well outside of their original intentions to deport people who are needed here.
Let us hope that Sajid will be able to control them.
Maybe he will have to remove some of them who have ideas above their station.

National Health Funding.

Theresa May hinted that the way forward for funding the National Health Service would be to give each person a sum of money and let the participant decide how it would be spent.

This is O.K. in theory but it leaves the way open for future governments to easily reduce the amount per person, thus ignoring the costs of longterm illnesses and disabilities.
Just imagine the cost per person of a longterm disabled person against the cost of a fit and active person. It must be tens of thousands of pounds difference yet the new idea would make it so easy to put a cap on the amount spent per person.
This goes against the whole basic concept of the National Health Service and begins to smell more like an insurance-based system.

Just imagine how it sounds to say that the costs per person have been reduced by £100.00 instead of saying there will be a reduction of one hundred million pounds allocated to the NHS. (The figures I have used are purely for illustration and have no factual basis,)

This new concept is dangerous and should be thrown out.

Brexit again and again.

Why is it that we always seem to be in the wrong in the Brexit negotiations yet the E.U. has more to lose than us if everything goes sour?

We actually buy more from the E.U. countries than they buy from us, also these items could undoubtedly be purchased elsewhere in the world and probably cheaper.
An additional benefit would be a reduction in the number of heavy lorries traveling through the counties of South East England. This would also reduce the hiding places for illegal immigrants, a definite bonus.

Yet again we should remember that neither Germany or France are true friends of ours  both countries having their own agenda.

Why is it that so many Remainers have the final say in this Government?

It is my opinion that if we finish up with a bad deal the Conservative Party will suffer for decades and will become unelectable.

Staying in a form of Customs Union should be a definite No, No. It will not benefit us at all after all the British Public did not want to be told what they could do or rather couldn’t do by another organisation.

Local Government Elections.

The United Kingdom local government elections are due in May.
I expect that as usual all political parties will produce election manifestos that will be full of promises. The sole purpose of these promises is to get the electorate to vote for a particular political party.

How many times have we been told by the party that wins the election that a particular item can’t be incorporated in the Government Policy because they found that the situation has changed since they made the promise?
Why wasn’t this checked out or the sums done before included it in the manifesto or at least stated “if possible”? Instead of making a firm statement?

If a company advertised an item or service then collected money (votes) without supplying the goods they would be investigated and possibly prosecuted.

Why doesn’t this apply to an election promise? After all that is what a manifesto is, an advertisement to persuade you to use your vote in their favour.

More on British Justice.

Why is it that one person has so much control over how the British Justice system is run?

This person also controls which part of the crime wave is concentrated on by the Crown Prosecution Service and that person is the Director of Public Prosecutions these decisions produce the reaction of the police forces where they concentrate on the crimes that the Crown Prosecution decides, others can be delayed until the CPS is ready to take on their cases, which could be months.
This explains the national campaign against old cases of rape and sexual assault. It was one cause that the Director of Public Prosecutions insisted should be treated with the top priority.
The person who has a supervising roll over the Director is the Attorney General and it seems to me that the Attorney General has not taken the supervising role seriously enough.
Concentrating on old cases means that very little time is spent on new cases which explains the increase in knife crimes, housebreaking and shoplifting all of which are getting out of control, in shoplifting if the criminal is careful on the value of what they steal their crime will never be taken seriously.
Another problem is that shoplifting is committed by thieves of all races and the police are very wary of being accused of being racist so the pendulum is swinging the other way to the benefit of the criminals.
Personal crusades by the senior members of both the Police and CPS must stop if true justice stands a chance of surviving.

To solve crimes and punish the criminal the police must keep up to date with modern technology in all its aspects.

The time has come when we must really think again about how we fight all criminals, they now find it easy to travel from one police area to another yet the police have a load of paperwork to wade through to do the same, they are also faced with petty jealousy between police forces.
An increased freedom of movement could remove some of the petty jealousy but I am convinced that some will always be with us.

The elections of Police and Crime Commissioners are at least one step towards relieving the feeling of the public that the Police and CPS is a composed of very closed and inward looking people.

The old saying that the punishment must fit the crime doesn’t seem to apply anymore the approach to crime with its associated punishment needs updating in line with modern crime and public feeling, the cost of the punishment should not be the prime reason for the type of punishment. I agree that in the first case the costs will go up but in the long run, crime will diminish and the costs will come down.
The punishment for carrying a concealed weapon is nowhere severe enough it is not making criminals stop and think.

Remember that at one time the punishment for murder was death this led to a number of people being wrongly hung so it was right that it should be stopped but there weren’t many murders, now the time spent in prison is not sufficient to make people think twice about premeditated murder or any crime.
Now, of course, we must understand why a person turns to crime and make due allowances.

British Justice?

Worboys is not being charged with a rape dating back to 2003, even though the victim was told that new evidence proved that she was raped.
The police explained that hers was not a new case, therefore, it was not worthwhile to reconsider it.

Compare that to the ex-servicemen being prosecuted yet again over cases dating back to the Iraq War.
In both cases neither is a new case, therefore, the same argument should apply.
Why doesn’t it?

It was a war that was fought over false information.
Why wasn’t an investigation over that called for?

It is strange that one refers to an international case and the other is a national case, guess which one it was decided not to continue with.
I wonder which case the legal profession stands to make the most money out of?

Further illegal actions that are apparently being overlooked are shoplifting cases where the value of the goods stolen is less than £200.00.
Although to the police this may not seem a serious crime just consider this.
You are a small shopkeeper and your stock which doesn’t consist of expensive items is under constant attack from the shoplifters, what do you do?
You have two courses of action, you could close down, lose your income and work for a larger business. (The chancellor loses because you are no longer paying tax on your profits. You are paying less under PAYE.) or you could stay in business and put up your prices to cover your increased insurance, CCTV, overheads and theft losses.
In both cases, the general public loses out.
In the first case the public loses a local shop and in the second the public has to pay more for his goods.
The Police decision not to take action will more than likely affect your pocket.

I wonder what would happen if you detained the shoplifter and the police didn’t turn up for some hours, would the police then charge you with kidnapping?

Remember there is a Police and Crime Commissioner who you elect, that means you have someone you can question as to the right and wrongs of police actions.

Is the Labour Party on a suicide course?

It appears that the Labour Party with Corbyn as its Leader is moving further and further to the left, soon it could be having a serious effect on the membership figures.
The normal member of the various unions are not socialists, they are just people who are trying to look out for themselves and not be taken for a ride by others. Soon these very members will rise up and take back control of the unions their forefathers started.
Michael Foot tried to take the Labour Party on a path towards the left and socialism, he didn’t succeed but rather the Party had a major defeat in a subsequent election.

When there were middle of the road Labour people like Blair and Brown (in his early years) who captured the imagination of the middle class voter they stood a better chance of winning elections, but if they are extremely left wing their chances are reduced.

With todays methods of instant mass communication the whole political scene is changing only a short while ago it was only the young who understood the social media, this has now changed and you even have pensioners with Facebook and twitter accounts. This means that they also have access to worldwide propaganda but with the experience of years they are more likely to query it.

Is it possible that out of this chaos will rise a new political party?

Are we living in a Country safe from attacks?

It is becoming apparent that no country is safe from an attack by another country or regime.

This has become apparent when you read about the vicious attack on the Russian family of Ex spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter in Salisbury. To me it is made worse by the attackers not even caring whether some innocent person was injured by their action.
What would the average Russian citizen think if a similar style of attack was made on, let us say a middle eastern  terrorist seeking refuge in Russia and a large group of Russian citizens were caught up in it and they were also injured. I am sure they would be as horrified as we are now.

Sergei Skripal was I believe exchanged in 2010 as part of a spy exchange deal.
Why was this assassination carried out so long after the exchange?

We also read about terrorist attacks carried out in various countries throughout the world, have these always been going on and it is entirely due to social networking that we are becoming aware of it?

How many times is it a case of this type of news is cover for some another news that is buried? Do you remember the comment made some years back during the swine flu epidemic that Jo Moore made the statement that “now is a good day to bury bad news?” I believe the year was 2009.
